The Wheaten Maran from a distance looks very much like your average brown hybrid hen, but looks can be deceiving as this branch of the Maran family lays the most impressive very dark reddish brown eggs, and will lay in excess of 200 of these spectacular eggs per year. The Wheaten Maran unlike the Cuckoo Maran has also retained the origional French Maran’s feathered legs. The males with their rich dark colours create an impressive site on any poultry range.
